Yolanda Sequeira-Hopkins, atleta do Clube Naval de Portimão venceu a prova feminina da 3ª Etapa do Circuito de Surf do Alentejo 2013, disputada na Praia de São Torpes, no fim-de-semana 26 e 27 de Outubro. A organização do Sines Surf Clube ainda não divulgou os resultados e o ‘ranking’ final, mas a jovem surfista algarvia, com duas vitórias nas três etapas que compuseram este circuito, deverá ter garantido o título de campeã do Circuito de Surf do Alentejo 2013 na categoria Femininos. O seu colega José Montez foi 2º na Etapa em Sub-16 e também poderá ter conquistado o título de campeão do circuito na sua categoria.
Adiada desde Maio, esta 3ª – e última – Etapa do Circuito de Surf do Alentejo 2013 foi brindada com um sábado de gala, com ondas poderosas de 2 metros, a contrastar com um domingo de mar bastante mais pequeno. Gustavo ‘Guga’ Gouveia, treinador na FutureSurfingSchool (Praia da Rocha) e atleta do Clube Naval de Portimão tinha vencido o Open na 2ª Etapa deste circuito, mas não disputou a 3ª Etapa por se ter lesionado num joelho, na semana passada.
A grande expectativa nesta 3ª Etapa assentava na discussão pelo título Open do circuito num duelo entre ‘Manel’ João e o algarvio Paulo Alves Almeida, também treinador na FutureSurfingSchool e atleta do Clube Naval de Portimão, que acumulava um 2º e um 3º lugares nas duas etapas anteriores. O algarvio ainda venceu a Expression Session mas não foi feliz na luta pela vitória no Open: partiu a sua ‘prancha mágica’ e terminou a Etapa na 4ª posição. Pelas suas próprias contas deverá ter conquistado o título de vice-campeão Open do Circuito de Surf do Alentejo 2013.

A representação algarvia nesta Etapa, toda ela composta por atletas do Clube Naval de Portimão treinados pela FutureSurfingSchool esteve em excelente nível. Em Femininos, Yolanda Hopkins venceu a Etapa e Marta Theriaga Gonçalves terminou na 2ª posição. Em Sub-16, José Montez foi 2º classificado, resultado que, somado com a vitória na 1ª Etapa, em Março, lhe pode valer o título de campeão do circuito.
Ainda em Sub-16, Ralph van Hek e Rafael Arnedo perderam nas meias-finais. O mesmo aconteceu a Francisco Bívar em Sub-14.

YOLANDA CHAMPION IN THE ALENTEJO
Yolanda Sequeira-Hopkins, athlete representing the ‘Clube Naval de Portimão’ won the women competition in Event 3 of the Alentejo Surf Circuit 2013, held at the Beach of São Torpes, on weekend 26th and 27th October. The organization of the ‘Sines Surf Clube’ has not yet released the results and final rankings, but the young surfer from the Algarve, with two wins in the three events of this this circuit should have secured the title of champion of the Alentejo Surf Circuit 2013 in the category Women. His colleague José Montez was 2nd in Under-16 and also may have won the title of champion of the circuit in its age group.
Postponed since May, this Event 3 – and last – of the Alentejo Surf Circuit was treated to a Saturday gala, with powerful waves of 2 meters, to contrast with a Sunday of much smaller sea. Gustavo ‘ Guga ‘ Gouveia , coach at FutureSurfingSchool (Praia da Rocha) and athlete representing the ‘Clube Naval de Portimão’ had won the Open in Event 2 of this circuit, but did not competed in Event 3 for having injured his knee last week .
The great expectation for Event 3 was the Open title discussion in a duel between ‘Manel’ João and Paulo Alves Almeida from the Algarve, also coach in FutureSurfingSchool and athlete representing ‘Clube Naval de Portimão’ who accumulated a 2nd and a 3rd place in the two previous events. The athlete from the Algarve won the Expression Session but was not happy in his bid for the Open victory: he broke his ‘magic stick” and finished the Event in 4th position . By his own accounts he should be Open runner-up of the Alentejo Surf Circuit 2013 .
The representation from the Algarve in the Event, all of it composed by athletes representing ‘Clube Naval de Portimão’ trained by FutureSurfingSchool was in excellent level. In Women, Yolanda Hopkins won the Event and Marta Theriaga Gonçalves finished in 2nd place. In U-16, José Montez finished 2nd in the Event, a result which, together with the victory in Event 1, in March, may be worth the title of U-16 champion of the circuit .
Still in Under-16, Ralph van Hek and Rafael Arnedo lost in the semi-finals. The same happened to Francisco Bívar in Under-14.
