Miguel Mouzinho venceu o Open na 3ª Etapa do Circuito de Surf do Algarve 2013 by Ericeira Surf & Skate, disputada ontem na Praia do Amado, com organização do Algarve Surf Clube (ASC). O surfista de Lagos, tetracampeão do circuito em título, falhou as duas primeiras etapas do circuito deste ano e reapareceu na prova organizada pelo seu próprio clube, vencendo com naturalidade, apesar do repto de Gustavo Gouveia, ‘Guga’ (CNPortimão), que também fez a sua primeira prova neste circuito e mostrou surf para desafiar o primeiro lugar.
“Não me ponham já de parte”, avisou Miguel Mouzinho (ASC), ainda durante a competição, numa altura em que os atletas faziam contas ao ‘ranking’ face ao reaparecimento do tetracampeão. Na Praia do Amado, o surfista de Lagos mostrou muita maturidade competitiva, deixando que os adversários revelassem os seus trunfos, antes de ele próprio ‘pôr as cartas na mesa’.
Foi apenas na final que Mouzinho colocou todo o seu surf na prancha e se destacou da concorrência, compensando alguma hesitação na escolha das ondas com um desempenho técnico irrepreensível. “Faço questão de fazer este circuito e vou de certeza às próximas etapas. Para estar na luta pelo título tenho de ganhar as duas últimas provas”, disse Miguel Mouzinho ao Swell-Algarve.

Gustavo Gouveia esteve sempre melhor na escolha das ondas no Amado e trabalhou bem todas as linhas, com ataques muito verticais ao ‘lip’. O surfista de Portimão destacou-se durante toda a prova, mas cedeu o protagonismo na final. Pedro Tomás Alcobia (ASC) disputou no Amado a sua segunda final Open consecutiva neste circuito, mas foi uma pálida imagem da qualidade demonstrada nas baterias anteriores, revelando alguma fragilidade competitiva em prejuízo do bonito surf que mostrou ser capaz de praticar.
O quarto surfista presente na final de 4 do Open foi o jovem António Silveira (CNPortimão – também finalista em Sub-16), que eliminou tangencialmente o seu professor, Francisco Canelas (CNPortimão), condicionado por uma fractura na base do metacarpo do dedo mínimo da mão direita. Francisco Canelas foi eliminado na meia-final pela segunda vez consecutiva, mas mantém a liderança no circuito graças à vitória na 1ª Etapa, em Faro, continuando na luta para conquistar o título regional que lhe falta na carreira e para o qual precisa, pelo menos, de chegar a uma final nas duas últimas etapas.

Paulo Alves Almeida (CNPortimão), que na 2ª Etapa (Cordoama) opôs forte concorrência ao vencedor Joackim Guichard, também não conseguiu chegar à final do Open no Amado. Surfista com muita energia e sempre muito rápido e crítico no ataque às ondas, Paulo Alves Almeida foi eliminado na meia-final onde estiveram presentes Miguel Mouzinho e Gustavo Gouveia.
A competição em Sub-16 ficou marcada pela ausência do campeão 2012 e vencedor das duas primeiras etapas deste ano, Francisco Duarte (CNPortimão), por estar numa ‘surf trip’ pelas Maldivas. Os irmãos Teixeira, Simão e Gaspar (campeão Sub-14 do circuito 2012), da Costa de Caparica, tentaram repetir a dupla presença na final conseguida na 2ª Etapa, mas apenas Simão chegou à última bateria no Amado. Martim Magalhães (CN Portimão) venceu esta 3ª Etapa em Sub-16, protagonizando na final um emocionante duelo com José Montez (CNPortimão), apenas decidido na última onda.

Na competição feminina, Yolanda Hopkins – Sequeira (CNPortimão – campeã Feminino do circuito 2012) venceu esta 3ª Etapa e assumiu a liderança no ‘ranking’. Apenas seis atletas disputaram a prova feminina no Amado, entre as quais Nádia Reis, ‘Caxuxa’ (CNPortimão – vice-campeã Feminino do circuito 2012). Nádia liderava o ‘ranking’ após duas etapas, mas no Amado foi eliminada na meia final onde estiveram presentes as duas surfistas mais fortes desta 3ª Etapa: Yolanda Hopkins e Marta Theriaga (CNPortimão).
De regresso ao Circuito de Surf do Algarve 2013 no Amado, depois da ausência na 2ª Etapa, estiveram os irmãos Tomás e Guilherme Ribeiro, da Costa de Caparica. Tomás Ribeiro venceu esta 3ª Etapa em Sub-14. Guilherme Ribeiro (campeão Sub-12 do circuito 2012 e vencedor da 1ª Etapa 2013 em Sub-14 e Sub-12) venceu a 3ª Etapa em Sub-12 e foi 2º classificado em Sub-14. Guilherme continua a mostrar uma qualidade de surf surpreendente para os seus 11 anos de idade. Destaque ainda em Sub-12 para Concha Balsemão, 10 anos de idade e local da Carrapateira, que disputou no Amado o seu primeiro campeonato e conseguiu chegar à final.

A 3ª Etapa do Circuito de Surf do Algarve 2013 foi disputada por um total de 56 atletas, 16 dos quais na categoria Open, num ‘line up’ generoso, com ondas de metro no set e um vento off-shore que só pecou por ser demasiado intenso e assim complicar as manobras aos ‘artistas’. Os irmãos Luca e Joackim Guichard, ambos do ASC, estavam inscritos mas não compareceram. Ausente esteve também a competição Longboard, uma vez que os atletas desta modalidade, com particular destaque para os elementos do Clube de Surf de Faro, viajaram para Gaia, para a 2ª Etapa do Rebel Tour, o novo circuito nacional de Longboard inter-clubes, que se estreou em Faro, em Fevereiro, em simultâneo com a 1ª Etapa do Circuito de Surf do Algarve 2013.
A próxima etapa do Circuito de Surf do Algarve 2013 está marcada para os dias 9 e 10 de Novembro, em Quarteira.

MOUZINHO WINS AT AMADO
Miguel Mouzinho won the Open in Event 3 of the Algarve Surf Circuit 2013 by Ericeira Surf & Skate, held yesterday in Praia do Amado, organised by the Algarve Surf Clube (ASC). The Surfer from Lagos, four-time circuit champion in title, missed the first two events of this year circuit and reappeared now in the event organised by the club he represents, winning with ease, despite the challenge of Gouveia Gustavo ‘Guga’ (CNPortimão), which also debuted in the circuit and showed surf to challenge the first place.
“Do not count me out yet”, warned Miguel Mouzinho (ASC), during the competition, at a time when athletes were doing the math of the ‘ranking’ because of the reappearance of the four-time champion. In Praia do Amado, the surfer from Lagos showed great competitive maturity, allowing opponents to reveal their strengths before he revealed himself.
It was only in the Open Final that Mouzinho put all his surf on the board and stood out in the competition, compensating some hesitation in choosing the waves with a faultless technical performance. “I make a point of doing this circuit and I sure will compete in the next events. To be in the title race I have to win the last two events,” said Miguel Mouzinho to the Swell-Algarve.
Gustavo Gouveia made always the best choice of the waves in Praia do Amado and worked well all lines, with vertical attacks to the ‘lip’. The surfer from Portimão stood out throughout the event, but ceded the role in the end. Pedro Tomás Alcobia (ASC) played in Amado its second consecutive Open Final of this circuit, but it was a pale image of the quality he demonstrated in the previous heats, revealing some fragility in prejudice of the beautiful surf which he proved able to practice.
The fourth surfer in the Opena Final of 4 was the young António Silveira (CNPortimão – also a finalist in Under-16), which eliminated tangentially his teacher, Francisco Canelas (CNPortimão), conditioned by a fracture at the base of the little finger mentacarpo in the right hand. Francisco Canelas was eliminated in the semi-final for the second consecutive time, but retains the lead in the circuit thanks to victory in Event 1, in Faro, continuing the fight to win the regional title that he lacks in his career and for which he will need at least to reach a final in the last two events.
Paulo Alves Almeida (CNPortimão), that in Event 2 (Cordoama) challenged the winner Joackim Guichard, also failed to reach the Open Final in Praia do Amado. Surfer with a lot of energy and always very quick and critical in the waves, Paulo Almeida was eliminated in the semi-final attended by Miguel Mouzinho and Gustavo Gouveia.
The competition for Under-16 was marked by the absence of the champion 2012 and winner of the first two events of this year, Francisco Duarte (CNPortimão), for being in a ‘surf trip’ in the Maldives. Teixeira brothers, Simão and Gaspar (champion Under-14 in 2012), from Costa da Caparica, tried to repeat the double appearance in the Under-14 Final achieved in Event 2, but only Simão reached the final heat in Praia do Amado. Martin Magalhães (CN Portimão) won Event 3 in Under-16, starring in the end an exciting duel with José Montez (CNPortimão) only decided in the last wave.
In women’s competition, Yolanda Hopkins – Sequeira (CNPortimão – Female circuit champion 2012) won Event 3 and took the lead in the ‘ranking’. Only six athletes competed in the women’s category in Amado, including Nádia Reis ‘Caxuxa’ (CNPortimão – Female runner-up circuit 2012). Nadia was leading the ‘ranking’ after two events, but in Praia do Amado she was eliminated in the semi final attended by the two stronger female surfers in Event 3: Yolanda Hopkins and Marta Theriaga (CNPortimão).
Returning to the Algarve Surf Circuit 2013 in Amado, after missing Event 2, were the brothers Tomés and Guilherme Ribeiro, from Costa da Caparica. Tomás Ribeiro won the Event 3 in Under-14. Guilherme Ribeiro (Under-12 circuit champion in 2012 and winner of the Event 1 in 2013 in Under-14 and Under-12) won the Event 3 in Under-12 and was runner-up in Under-14. Guilherme continues to show a quality surf amazing for his 11 years of age. Also noteworthy in Under-12 was Concha Balsemão, 10 years of age and local from Carrapateira, who competed in her first championship in Praia do Amado and managed to reach the Under-12 Final.
Event 3 of the Algarve Surf Circuit 2013 had a total of 56 athletes, 16 of which in the Open category. Praia do Amado showed a generous ‘line up’, with waves of metre high on set and off-shore wind that only sinned by being too strong and so complicating the ‘artists’ maneuvers. The brothers Luca and Joackim Guichard, both representing ASC, were enrolled but did not attend. Absent was also the Longboard competition, once the athletes of this discipline, with particular emphasis on the elements of the Clube de Surf de Faro, traveled to Gaia, for the Event 2 of the Rebel Tour, the new national circuit Longboard inter-clubs, which debuted in Faro in February, along with Event 1 of the Algarve Surf Circuit 2013.
The next event (4) of the Algarve Surf Circuit 2013 is scheduled for the 9th and 10th of November in Quarteira.
