A Praia do Amado recebeu ontem a 1ª Etapa portuguesa do Volcom Rumblefish. Pedro Tomás Alcobia (Lagos – Algarve Surf Clube) foi o melhor algarvio em prova, 3º classificado na categoria Pro Am (Sub-20). Yolanda Hopkins (Clube Naval de Portimão) e Francisco Duarte (Clube Naval de Portimão) concluíram a etapa na quarta posição das classificações finais Girls (Feminino Sub-20) e Juniors (Sub-17).

O Volcom Rumblefish é conhecido por ser o campeonato de surf mais ‘cool’ da costa portuguesa, desde logo porque as inscrições são feitas na praia, a partir das 08h00. É constituído por duas etapas – Praia do Amado (Aljezur, 31 de Agosto) e Praia de Matosinhos (14 e 15 de Setembro) – e integra o Volcom Qualifying Series (VQS), circuito internacional que se realiza nos EUA, Europa, Indonésia, Japão, América do Sul e África do Sul.
Os finalistas de cada categoria – Pro Am (Sub-20), Juniors (Sub-17), Groms (Sub-13), Squids (Sub-10) e Girls (Feminino Sub-20) – qualificam-se para o VQS European Championships 2014, que vai realizar-se em Anglet, França, em Abril do próximo ano. Os vencedores Pro Am (Sub-20) vão ter o privilégio de competir no Volcom Fiji Pro 2014, etapa do circuito mundial WCT em Tavarua, prevista para Junho do próximo ano.

SURFERS FROM THE ALGARVE AT THE TOP
Amado Beach hosted yesterday Event 1 of the Volcom Rumblefish. Pedro Tomás Alcobia (Lagos – Algarve Surf Club) was the best placed from the Algarve, 3rd place in the Pro Am category (U-20). Yolanda Hopkins (Clube Naval de Portimão) and Francisco Duarte (Clube Naval de Portimão) finished the event in fourth each in the final overall standings Girls (U-20 Women) and Juniors (U17).
The Volcom Rumblefish is known to be the ‘coolest’ surfing championship in the Portuguese coast, not least because the entries are made on the beach, from 08h00. It consists of 2 Events – Amado Beach (Aljezur, August 31) and Matosinhos Beach (14 and 15 September) – and integrates the Volcom Qualifying Series (VQS), international circuit that takes place in the U.S., Europe, Indonesia, Japan, South America and South Africa
The finalists in each category – Pro Am (U20), Juniors (U17), Groms (Under-13), Squids (Under-10) and Girls (U-20 Women) – qualify for the European VQS Championships 2014 that will be held in Anglet, France in April next year. Winners Pro Am (U-20) will have the privilege to compete in the Volcom Fiji Pro 2014, WCT World Tour event in Tavarua, scheduled for June next year.
