Marlon Lipke (Clube de Surf de Faro) concluiu na 7ª posição da classificação geral masculina o Pantín Classic Galicia Pro, evento de 3 estrelas do circuito mundial de qualificação WQS da ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals). O atleta algarvio foi o surfista português que mais baterias disputou neste campeonato: competiu desde a 1ª ronda até às meias-finais, onde foi eliminado numa bateria ganha pelo compatriota José Ferreira, que disputou a sua primeira final num evento de estrelas ASP.
Marlon iniciou o Pantín Classic Galicia Pro logo na Ronda de 112 (1ª ronda) e venceu a bateria, apurando-se para a fase seguinte tal como o português Pedro Correia. Nesta fase da prova foram eliminados os portugueses John Junior, Pedro Barros e Eduardo Fernandes. O algarvio Marlon Lipke voltou a vencer a sua bateria na ronda seguinte (R96), fase em que entraram em prova mais portugueses, com sortes distintas: Francisco Alves e Justin Mujica foram eliminados; João Guedes, Ruben Gonzalez, Filipe Jervis e Miguel Blanco apuraram-se, tal como Pedro Correia, que já vinha da ronda anterior.
A Ronda de 64 marcou a entrada em prova dos portugueses Vasco Ribeiro e José Ferreira, que se apuraram ambos para a ronda seguinte. João Guedes, Ruben Gonzalez, Filipe Jervis, Miguel Blanco e Pedro Correia foram eliminados. Marlon Lipke foi o único a vir de trás nesta ronda e a continuar para a ronda seguinte, segundo classificado numa bateria ganha por José Ferreira.
Na 4º ronda da prova (R32) Marlon Lipke voltou a vencer a sua bateria e seguiu em frente. José Ferreira conseguiu o mesmo resultado, mas estava a disputar a sua segunda bateria na prova, enquanto que o algarvio já acumulava um percurso com quatro baterias disputadas (3 vitórias e 1 segundo lugar). Nesta Ronda de 32, o campeão nacional Vasco Ribeiro foi eliminado, terminando a sua bateria em quatro lugar.
O Pantín Classic Galicia Pro 2013 ficou com apenas dois portugueses em prova nos quartos-de-final – Marlon Lipke e José Ferreira – e ditou a sorte que ambos entrassem na mesma bateria. José Ferreira colocou-se cedo na liderança da bateria e Marlon Lipke conseguiu virar o rumo dos acontecimentos nas duas últimas ondas, conquistando o 2º lugar que lhe valeu o apuramento para as meias-finais, onde os dois portugueses voltaram a competir na mesma bateria.
José Ferreira conseguiu ganhar a meia-final, com uma recuperação espectacular, mas Marlon acabou a bateria na quarta posição. O algarvio foi 7º na classificação final masculina, conquistando mais 277 pontos para o circuito de qualificação ASP e um prémio monetário de 1.300 dólares (974,22 euros).
O Pantín Classic Galicia Pro 2013 terminou hoje e foi ganho por Steven Pierson (Polinésia Francesa). José Ferreira concluiu a prova na 4ª posição da classificação masculina. A prova feminina, a valer 6 estrelas ASP, foi ganha pela australiana Nikki Van Dijk. As portuguesas Maria Abecasis, Teresa Bonvalot e Carina Duarte foram eliminadas na 3ª ronda. Keshia Eyre tinha sido eliminada logo na 1ª ronda.
Os próximos dois eventos de qualificação Prime ASP disputam-se em Portugal: SATA Airlines Azores Pro 2013 (São Miguel, 3 a 8 de Setembro) e Cascais Billabong Pro (Carcavelos, 21 a 27 de Outubro).

MARLON 7TH IN GALICIA
Marlon Lipke (Clube de Surf de Faro) finished in 7th position overall male the Pantin Classic Galicia Pro, 3 Stars WQS event of the ASP (Association of Surfing Professionals) world tour qualification. The athlete from the Algarve was the Portuguese surfer who disputed more heats in this championship: he competed from the 1st round to the semi-finals, where he was eliminated in a heat won by compatriot José Ferreira, who disputed his first final in an ASP stars event.
Marlon started the Galicia Pantin Classic Pro on the Round of 112 (1st round) and won his heat, qualifying to the next round as well as compatriot Pedro Correia. At this stage of the event were eliminated the Portuguese surfers John Junior, Pedro Barros and Eduardo Fernandes. The ‘algarvian’ Marlon Lipke came back to win his heat in the forward round (R96), in which entered into competition more Portuguese, with mixed fortunes : Francisco Alves and Justin Mujica were eliminated ; João Guedes , Ruben Gonzalez , Filipe Jervis and Miguel Blanco qualifyed as Pedro Correia, who was already in the previous round .

Marlon Lipke was the only one to come back in this round and continue to the next round, second place in a heat won by José Ferreira.
In the 4th round of the event (R32), Marlon Lipke again won his heat and moved on. José Ferreira got the same result , but it was only his second heat in the event, while the ‘algarvian’ has accumulated already a route with four heats disputed (3 wins and 1 second place) . In this Round of 32 , the Portuguese national champion Vasco Ribeiro was eliminated, finishing his heat in fourth place .
The Pantin Classic Galicia Pro 2013 was left with only two Portuguese in the quarter- final – Marlon Lipke and José Ferreira – and fate dictated they both entered the same heat. José Ferreira put himself early in the lead and Marlon Lipke managed to turn the course of events in the last two waves , winning the 2nd place needed to qualify to the semi-finals where the two Portuguese competed again in the same heat.
José Ferreira won the semi-final with a spectacular recovery and Marlon finished fourth. The surfer from the Algarve finished 7th in the overall men standing, winning 277 points for the ASP qualification tour and a cash prize of $ 1,300 ( 974.22 euros ) .

The two next ASP Prime events will be held in Portugal: SATA Airlines Azores Pro 2013 (São Miguel, September 3-8) and Cascais Billabong Pro (Carcavelos, October 21-27).
