Twenty one year old English surfer Cameron Munro drowned in Bali, Indonesia. ‘Cam’ was an instructor in the Algarve Surf School & Camp, at Sagres, for the past three years ago. “He was the most quiet, good vibe, feel good, humble guy you can imagine”, stated Zara Mata, president of the ‘Algarve Surf Clube’, an organization under which the surf school runs.

Cameron was an experienced surfer and the circumstances of the accident that killed him are not yet fully  clarified. The English surfer had been in Bali on previous occasions. According to Zara Mata, the surfer “drowned while surfing”. Cameron Munro was in Uluwatu, on the Bukit Peninsula, a surfing destination, famous for its five ‘peaks’, including ‘Bombie’, an extremely powerful wave.

The death of Cameron Munro caused quite a consternation in the surf community closest to the Algarve Surf School & Camp. “Cam was admired by all his friends, colleagues and clients. No one will ever say anything negative about Cameron, simply because he had nothing bad… he always had a smile and was very professional“, said Zara Mata, speaking to Swell-Algarve.

The ‘shaper’ Ivo Afonso, from the Algarve brand Plâncton Surfboards is in Indonesia. Ivo contacted  Swell-Algarve, and said the fatal accident occurred in the area of Nusa Dua. “I surfed several times with him here, we recognized each other with a glance, and shared waves”, said Ivo Afonso, indicating that the waves on the day of the accident were “very hollow” and strong.
