Junior sailor from the Algarve Daniela Miranda is the new Laser 4.7 Girls Portugal Champion. The sailor of the the ‘Associação Naval do Guadiana’ finished the XXVII Portugal Juniors and Absolute Championship in 1st place Girls, 6th overall on her class. Her teammate Bruna Carvalho finished runner-up in the same sailing class. The Algarve has won another medal in the Portugal Championship by Pedro Roque, from the ‘Clube Naval de Portimão’, Bronze Medal Absolute in Laser Radial.
The XXVII Portugal Juniors and Absolute Championship was held in Figueira da Foz and was concluded Saturday, April 2nd. It was organized by the ‘Clube Náutico da Figueira da Foz’ and the Portuguese Sailing Federation with a total of 143 registered sailors for 105 boats distributed by the 420, 4.7 and Radial sailing classes.
The Algarve was represented by 29 athletes and five clubs. The junior Daniela Miranda has won this year’s Girls’ national 4.7 Portuguese Champion title after having won in 2014 the Girls’ national Youth Portuguese Champion title in the Optimist sailing class.
Pedro Roque has entered this year in regional events in the 420 class, but at the the Portugal Championship he won a Bronze Medal in Radial. Another highlight for the Algarve was is João Abrantes (‘Associação Naval do Guadiana’), who finished one place shy from the 4.7 Juniors podium.
During the four days of the championship only 4 races 420 and Radial and 3 races 4.7 were held; and all in only one day of effective competition at sea, on Friday, April 1st. In the remaining days of the event no regattas were held because sailing in Figueira da Foz was conditioned.
Diogo Costa / Pedro Costa (420 Absolute), Mafalda Pires de Lima / Ana Luísa Magalhães (420 Juniors and Absolute Girls), Francisco Maia / Rui Oliveira (420 Juniors), Miguel Rouxinol (Laser 4.7 Male), Daniela Miranda (Laser 4.7 Girls ) and Henrique Brites (Laser Radial) are the new Portugal Champions.
