Beatriz Cintra (Clube Naval de Portimão) venceu o Meeting Internacional de Optimist no grupo etário mais jovem C (nascidos em 2003 e 2004) e o seu colega de clube Rodrigo Correia terminou a prova no 5º lugar do grupo A (nascidos em 1998; 1999 e 2000). O evento foi disputado entre sexta-feira e hoje na Ria de Vigo, organizado pelo Real Club Náutico de Vigo e inserido na Semana do Atlântico Cidade de Vigo, que juntou cerca de 600 velejadores de todo o Mundo em diversas classes de Vela.
O Meeting Internacional de Optimist em Vigo foi disputado por 232 jovens velejadores de diversos países Europeus, divididos em 2 frotas – Frota Coca Cola A (nascidos em 1998; 1999 e 2000) + Hiperxel B (nascidos em 2001 e 2002) e a Frota Froiz C (nascidos em 2003 e 2004) – em 2 campos de regatas distintos. As duas frotas disputaram 4 regatas durante os três dias em condições de vento variáveis: 2 regatas no primeiro dia (sexta-feira) com ventos de 18 knots; 1 regata no segundo dia (sábado) com chuva e vento instável a cair dos 20 para os 4 knots; 1 regata no último dia (hoje) com vento de 8 knots.

Rodrigo Correia foi 6º classificado na Frota A+B (204 velejadores), mas 5º classificado no grupo etário A, tendo vencido a 1ª das 4 regatas disputadas. O velejador de Portimão foi 3º na segunda regata da prova (ainda sexta-feira) e 2º na 3ª regata (disputada em condições difíceis, no sábado), acabando por fraquejar apenas no último dia, hoje, ao completar a única regata da jornada na 16ª posição. Uma excelente prestação do atleta algarvio, que foi o melhor velejador português nesta frota em que competiram juntas duas classes etárias (A+B).
Beatriz Cintra brilhou na classe mais jovem (C – 29 velejadores), realizando uma prova absolutamente notável num grupo onde era a única representante do Algarve. Uma semana depois de ter ganho a 1ª Prova do Campeonato do Algarve de Vela Ligeira 2013-2014 em Infantis, a velejadora de Portimão foi a Vigo conquistar uma importante vitória internacional, confirmando o excelente momento de forma no arranque da nova época desportiva.
Em Vigo, Beatriz Cintra fez uma prova progressiva. A algarvia foi 2ª e 5ª nas duas regatas de sexta-feira e só depois avançou decididamente para a vitória, vencendo a regata de sábado, disputada em condições muito difíceis (com vento instável) e concluindo na segunda posição a última regata, disputada hoje. Terminou a prova com 10 pontos, deixando a cinco pontos de distância o 2º classificado, Gonçalo Bento Alves (Clube de Vela de Viana do Castelo).
Destaque ainda para Beatriz Gago, actual campeã nacional Infantis mas a competir nesta nova época já como Juvenil, que conquistou o 47º lugar na Frota A+B, equivalente no seu caso ao 10º lugar no grupo B, sendo a melhor portuguesa neste escalão etário (nascidos em 2001 e 2002). Recorde-se que na edição de 2012 deste Meeting Internacional de Optimist em Vigo, Beatriz Gago conquistou o 2º lugar no Grupo C.
O Clube Naval de Portimão conquistou os melhores resultados portugueses nos três grupos etários em competição com Beatriz Cintra (1º no grupo C), Rodrigo Correia (5º no grupo A) e Beatriz Gago (10ª no grupo B).

BEATRIZ CINTRA WINS IN VIGO
Beatriz Cintra (‘Clube Naval de Portimão’) won the International Optimist Meeting in the younger age Group C (born in 2003 and 2004) and fellow team sailor Rodrigo Correia finished the race in 5th place in Group A (born in 1998, 1999 and 2000). The event was held between Friday and today in Vigo, Spain organised by the ‘Real Club Nautico de Vigo’ and inserted in the Atlantic Week of the City of Vigo, who joined about 600 sailors from around the world in various classes of sailing .
The International Optimist Meeting in Vigo was contested by 232 young sailors from several European countries, divided into two fleets – Fleet Coca Cola A (born in 1998, 1999 and 2000) + Hiperxel B (born in 2001 and 2002) and Fleet Froiz C (born in 2003 and 2004) – in two distinct regattas fields. The two fleets competed in four regattas each during the three days in varying wind conditions: 2 regattas on the first day (Friday) with winds of 18 knots; 1 regatta on the second day (Saturday) with rain and unstable wind dropping from 20 to the 4 knots; 1 regatta on the last day (today) with wind of 8 knots.
Rodrigo Correia was finished 6th in Fleet A + B (204 sailors), but 5th place in age group A, having won the 1st of 4 regattas contested. The sailor from Portimão was 3rd in the second regatta (still on Friday) and 2nd in the 3rd regatta (disputed in difficult conditions on Saturday), eventually faltering in the last day, today, completing the only regatta of the day in 16th position. An excellent result for the athlete from the Algarve, which was the best Portuguese sailor in this fleet of combined two age groups (A + B) .
Beatriz Cintra shone in the youngest age group ( C – 29 sailors ), performing a truly remarkable event in a group where she was the only representative from the Algarve. A week after winning the 1st event of the Dinghy Sailing Algarve Championship 2013-2014 in the age group ‘Infantis’, the young sailor from Portimão went to Vigo to win a major international event, confirming an excellent moment at the start of the new sports season.
In Vigo , Beatriz Cintra made progressive event. The sailor from the Algarve was 2nd and 5th in both regattas disputed on Friday and then moved decisively to victory, winning the sole regatta on Saturday, held under very difficult conditions (windy unstable) and finishing second in the final regatta, held today. She finished the event with 10 points, making five points away from the 2nd place , Portuguese Goncalo Bento Alves (Clube de Vela de Viana do Castelo).
Also noteworthy Beatriz Gago, current Portuguese national champion for the age group ‘Infantis’ but now competing as Juvenile, who won the 47th place in Fleet A + B , equivalent in her case to 10th place in Group B, being the best Portuguese in this age group (born in 2001 and 2002).
The ‘Clube Naval de Portimão’ won the best Portuguese results in the three age groups in competition with Beatriz Cintra (1st in Group C) , Rodrigo Correia (5th in Group A) and Beatriz Gago (10th in Group B).
