Joana Schenker terminou o IBA Sintra Portugal Pro 2013 no 9º lugar da classificação final feminina. A atleta algarvia, da Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres (ABS), mostrou um surf inteligente e de elevada qualidade na etapa portuguesa do circuito mundial de bodyboard, sendo apenas travada na 6ª ronda da prova. “Acabei eliminada num heat onde apenas entrou um set no primeiro minuto”, explicou a luso-germânica.
Vinda de uma vitória no circuito nacional e de um 5º lugar que soube a pouco na Miss Sumol Cup, Joana esteve verdadeiramente ‘on fire’ no IBA Sintra Portugal Pro 2013, acumulando emoção durante um longo percurso de seis baterias disputadas durante a prova. Esteve absolutamente dominadora logo no começo, vencendo os seus dois primeiros ´heats’ sempre com as duas ondas melhor pontuadas em cada um deles.
Na 1ª ronda, por exemplo, Joana Schenker impôs-se à marroquina Fatima Zahara, uma das finalistas da Miss Sumol Cup disputada dias antes na mesma praia. No dia seguinte, já na 3ª ronda, repetiu a ‘dose’, provocando dessa feita a eliminação da marroquina. Joana, 2ª classificada no ‘heat’, avançou para a 4º ronda, onde defrontou um alinhamento de luxo: Isabela Sousa (campeã do Mundo), Emma Cobb (líder do circuito mundial feminino WWT) e Lylly Pollard (4º no ranking WWT).
Joana foi 4ª classificada no heat da 4ª ronda tendo feito apenas duas ondas, mas o campeonato não terminava aí. “Com as minhas adversárias on fire e eu sem conseguir apanhar uma onda boa, percebi cedo que teria de disputar a ronda de repescagens”, comentou a atleta algarvia. A bateria acabou pior ficar marcada por um intenso duelo entre Isabela Sousa e Emma Cobb pelo segundo lugar, com a brasileira a virar o heat a quatro minutos da buzina e a conseguir mesmo roubar o 1º lugar a Lilly Pollard.
Joana Schenker foi repescada para a 5ª ronda, hoje, e voltou a encontrar Lilly Pollard. A australiana venceu a bateria e Joana, novamente com uma sóbria escolha de ondas (fez apenas 3), conseguiu o 2º lugar, deixando pelo caminho a porto-riquenha LuzMarie Grand, para quem tinha perdido na 3ª ronda.
Joana mostrava continuar ‘on fire’, mas o heat da 6ª ronda, disputado também hoje, não lhe correu bem. A bateria teve apenas um set, que entrou logo no primeiro minuto. “A Maylla Venturin fez uma nota 10 logo na sua primeira onda e a japonesa Ayaka Susuki fez um “, comentou Joana. A atleta algarvia esteve em combinação até 4 minutos do fim da bateria e depois ainda fez duas ondas, mas sem o potencial de que necessitava. “Fiquei sem ondas praticamente até ao fim, nem tive grande hipótese de entrar na disputa do heat”, explicou a atleta algarvia.

A brasileira ultrapassou nas meias-finais a compatriota Mayala Venturin (que eliminou Joana Schenker na 6ª ronda) e impôs-se na final à japonesa Sari Ohhara, segunda classificada no campeonato.

JOANA SCHENKER ‘ON FIRE’
Joana Schenker finished the IBA Sintra Portugal Pro 2013 on 9th place overall women’s. The athlete from the Algarve , representing ‘Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres’ ( ABS ), showed a smart and high quality surf in the Portuguese leg of the bodyboarding world tour, going through the 6th round of the competition. “I was eliminated in a heat where only one set came in the first minute ,” said the Portuguese-German .
Coming from a victory in the Portuguese national circuit and a 5th place in the Miss Sumol Cup, Joana was truly ‘on fire’ in the IBA Sintra Portugal Pro 2013 , accumulating emotion during a long journey of six heats contested during the event. She was absolutely dominating early on, winning her first two ‘ heats ‘ always with the best two waves scored in each.
In the 1st round , for example , Joana Schenker imposed herself over the Moroccan Fatima Zahara, one of the finalists of the Miss Sumol Cup disputed days before on the same beach . The next day, in the 3rd round , Joana repeated the result, causing this time the elimination of the Moroccan. Joana was 2nd in the ‘ heat ‘ and advanced to the 4th round , where she faced though competition: Isabela Sousa ( world champion ) , Emma Cobb ( leader of the world women circuit WWT ) and Lylly Pollard ( 4th in the WWT ) .
Joana finished 4th in the heat of the 4th round having made only two waves, but the championship was not yet over for her. ” With my opponents on fire and me not being able to catch a good wave , I realized early on that I would have to play the round recaps ,” said the athlete from the Algarve. The heat was marked by an intense duel between Isabela Sousa and Emma Cobb for second place , with the Brazilian to turn the heat to four minutes of the horn and even stealing the 1st place from Lilly Pollard .
Joana Schenker was recaped for the 5th round today, and found againa her friend Lilly Pollard . The Australian won the heat and Joana, again with a sober choice of waves ( made only 3 ) , got the 2nd place , eliminating the Puerto Rican LuzMarie Grand , to whom she had lost in the 3rd round .
Joana was still ‘on fire’ , but the heat of the 6th round , played today , did not go well . The heat had only one set, which came in the first minute . ” Maylla Venturin got a 10 in her first wave and Japanese Ayaka Suzuki got a 7″, said Joana. The athlete from the Algarve was in combination up to 4 minutes to the end and then made two waves, but without the potential she needed. “I had practically no waves until the end , or have great chance to get into the dispute of the heat “, said the athlete from the Algarve.
