A algarvia Joana Schenker terminou a Miss Sumol Cup 2013 na 7ª posição da classificação final em bodyboard feminino. A atleta da Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres (ABS) foi eliminada nas meias-finais, à espera de uma onda de set que não chegou para a levar até à final na Praia da Barra, em Ílhavo, Aveiro.
A competição de bodyboard na Miss Sumol Cup 2013, prova feminina de quatro estrelas do circuito europeu, decorreu nos dias 24 e 25 de Agosto, em Ílhavo. Esta 9ª edição da prova começou no seu ‘spot’ habitual, a Praia da Costa Nova, mas foi transferida no segundo dia (domingo) para a vizinha Praia da Barra, porque o mar subiu bastante e ficou impossível passar a rebentação e remar para o ‘outside’.

Joana Schenker, que vinha de uma vitória em open Feminino no circuito nacional Bodyboard Pro Tour, não conseguiu repetir a presença na final da Miss Sumol Cup alcançada em 2012. A algarvia esteve forte e colocou-se sem surpresa nas meias-finais, fazendo algumas das melhores ondas no primeiro dia de prova. Na sua meia-final, no domingo, já na Praia da Barra a frequência de ondas diminuiu. Joana apostou nas maiores e ainda apanhou uma e pontuou bem, mas depois ficou à espera no ‘outside’. Se tivesse apanhado mais uma onda de set era quase certo que tinha ido à final.
A prova acabou por ser ganha pela campeã nacional portuguesa Catarina Sousa (36 anos), que repetiu a vitória alcançada em 2011 impondo-se na final à australiana Emma Cobb (28 anos, vencedora do Antofagasta 2013, no Chile), à marroquina Fatima Zahara (34 anos, 11 vezes campeã de Marrocos) e à espanhola Olga Cutillas (18 anos, campeã espanhola sub-18). Fatima e Olga foram as finalistas apuradas na meia-final em que Joana Schenker foi eliminada.

Joana Schenker from the Algarve finished Miss Sumol Cup 2013 in the 7th place of the final standings in bodyboarding. The athlete representing Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres (ABS) was eliminated in the semi-finals, waiting for a set wave that has not come to take her to the final at Barra Beach in Ílhavo, Aveiro.
The bodyboard competition in Miss Sumol Cup 2013 women’s four stars event of the European Tour, was held on 24 and 25 August, in Ílhavo. This 9th edition of the event started on the usual ‘spot’ in Costa Nova Beach, but moved on the second day (Sunday) to nearby Barra Beach, because the sea was very strong, making it impossible to paddle to the ‘outside’.
Joana Schenker, coming off a victory in an event of the Portuguese national circuit open Female Bodyboard Pro Tour, failed to repeat the presence in the final of Miss Sumol Cup reached in 2012. The athlete from the Algarve was strong and qualified unsurprisingly to the semi-finals, making some of the best waves in the first day. In his semi-final on Sunday, already in Praia da Barra the wave frequency decreased. Joana bet on big waves and took one and scored well, but then waited in the ‘outside’. If she had caught another set wave she almost certainly had qualified to the final.
The event was eventually won by the Portuguese national champion Catarina Sousa (36 years), who repeated the victory achieved in 2011 imposing herself in the final over the Australian Emma Cobb (28 years, winner of the Antofagasta 2013, Chile), the Moroccan Fatima Zahara (34 years, 11 times champion of Morocco) and the Spanish Olga Cutillas (18 years, Spanish champion Under-18). Fatima and Olga were the finalists cleared in the semi-final where Joana Schenker was eliminated.
