Joana Schenker (Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres) venceu o Open Feminino da 2ª Etapa do circuito nacional Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013, que decorreu ontem e hoje na Praia de Cortegaça, Ovar. Em condições de mar difíceis, a atleta algarvia subiu à vice-liderança do ‘ranking’ do circuito nacional feminino, beneficiando da eliminação precoce de Catarina Sousa e impondo-se na final à vencedora da 1ª Etapa, Marta Fernandes, 3ª classificada nesta etapa.
A Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres (ABS) esteve presente nesta 2ª Etapa do Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013 com 3 atletas: Francisco Pinheiro, João Pinheiro e Joana Schenker. A maior expectativa concentrava-se em Francisco Pinheiro, o novo reforço da Science Bodyboards Portugal, devido ao 3ª lugar alcançado na 1ª Etapa do circuito nacional, em Santa Cruz. Mas o responsável pelo Team ABS foi eliminado logo no primeiro dia de prova em Cortegaça. Francisco Pinheiro foi 3º (em 4) no seu ‘heat’ de abertura, com 7 pontos, a 0,10 pontos da 2ª posição que lhe daria o apuramento para a ronda seguinte.
O primeiro dia de prova, quinta-feira, 15 de Agosto, foi servido com condições de mar impossíveis no ‘spot’ principal, obrigando a organização a mudar a prova para o outro lado do pontão de Cortegaça. O novo ‘spot’, com uma onda tipo ‘wedge’ a permitir apenas uma manobra, também não foi favorável ao surf de João PInheiro, 9º na 1ª Etapa em Santa Cruz. O atleta algarvio, que este ano se estreou no circuito mundial, ainda venceu a sua bateria na 1ª Ronda, mas ‘caiu’ na 2ª Ronda, 4º classificado numa bateria de 4 e com um score de 6,75 pontos.
João Pinheiro foi eliminado numa bateria ganha por Filipe Raposo ‘Cabrela’, que haveria de ganhar esta 2ª Etapa do Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013, deixando pelo caminho o campeão nacional em título, Manuel Centeno, e impondo-se na bateria derradeira a Jaime Jesus, que ainda assim fez a melhor onda (7,75) da final em Cortegaça.

Ao contrário dos ‘rapazes’, Joana Schenker adaptou-se bem às condições difíceis do mar em Cortegaça. A atleta algarvia, 5ª classificada na 1ª Etapa em Santa Cruz, marcou a sua posição logo na ronda de abertura do Open Feminino (1/4 finais), vencendo a sua bateria com 12 pontos. Catarina Sousa ‘caiu’ logo nesta ronda de abertura. Joana Schenker impôs-se hoje na final de forma categórica, deixando a 2ª classificada, Teresa Almeida, a 1,50 pontos e a vencedora da 1ª Etapa, Marta Fernandes, a distantes 5,10 pontos de distância. Uma vitória incontestável, que coloca a atleta algarvia nas ‘contas’ do título nacional.
Atenção agora para a etapa portuguesa do Circuito Mundial de Bodyboard IBA World Tour, na Praia Grande, em Sintra, de 26 de Agosto a 1 de Setembro. A 3ª Etapa do circuito nacional Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013 está marcada para 23 e 24 de Novembro, nos Açores.

JOANA WINS IN CORTEGAÇA
Joana Schenker (‘Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres’) won the Women’s Open in Stop 2 of the Portuguese national circuit Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013, held yesterday and today at the Cortegaça Beach, Ovar. In difficult sea conditions, the athlete from the Algarve strengthened her position in the national Portuguese ‘ranking’, benefiting from early elimination of Catarina Sousa and imposing herself in the final over the winner of Stop 1, Marta Fernandes, 3rd classified in this event.
The ‘ Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres’ (ABS) was present in this second event of the Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013 with 3 athletes: Francisco Pinheiro, João Pinheiro and Joana Schenker. Attention was concentrated on Francisco Pinheiro, new athlete sponsored by Science Bodyboards Portugal, due to his 3rd place finish in Stop 1 of the national Portuguese circuit, in Santa Cruz. But the coach for the ABS Team was eliminated on the first day in Cortegaça. Francisco Pinheiro was 3rd (in 4) in his opening ‘heat’, scoring 7 points, short 0.10 points of the the 2nd position which would qualify him for the next round.
The first day of competition, Thursday, August 15, was served with impossible sea conditions at the main ‘spot’, forcing the organization to change the event to the other side of the pontoon in Cortegaça. The new ‘spot’ with a ‘wedge’ wave type allowing only a single maneuver, was pleasant to João Pinheiro, 9th in Stop 1 in Santa Cruz. The athlete from the Algarve, which has debuted this year in the world tour, won his 1st round heat, but ‘fell’ in the 2nd round, 4th place in a heat of 4, with a score of 6.75 points.
João Pinheiro was eliminated in a heat won by Filipe Raposo ‘Cabrela’, who would win this Stop 2 of the Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013, dropping Portuguese national champion 2012, Manuel Centeno, and imposing himself in the final over Jaime Jesus, who still had the best wave (7.75) in the final in Cortegaça.
Unlike the ‘boys’, Joana Schenker adapted well to the harsh conditions of the sea in Cortegaça. The athlete from the Algarve, ranked 5th in Stop 1 in Santa Cruz, marked its position just on the opening round of the Women’s Open (quarter finals), winning her first heat with 12 points. Catarina Sousa was eliminated in this opening round. Joana Schenker prevailed today in the final, leaving 2nd place, Teresa Almeida, 1.50 points behind and the winner of Stop 1, Marta Fernandes, a distant 5.10 points away. An indisputable victory, which puts the athlete from the Algarve in the national title ‘equation’.
Attention now to the Portuguese leg of the World Tour of Bodyboarding IBA World Tour, in Praia Grande, Sintra, from 26th August to 1st September. Stop 3 of the Portuguese national Bodyboard Pro Tour 2013 is scheduled for 23rd and 24th November in the Azores.
