Velejadores algarvios contribuíram para a boa prestação da frota portuguesa na VIII Semana Olímpica Andaluza, que integrou o XIII Troféu de Carnaval e foi disputada durante quatro dias, até domingo 3 de Março, na Baía de Cadiz, Puerto Sherry. Destaque para Jack Cookson, atleta do Clube de Vela de Lagos, que conquistou o terceiro lugar na classificação geral da classe Laser 4.7.
Com vento forte de Levante, os velejadores algarvios bateram-se com os melhores do mundo presentes na prova espanhola. Jack Cookson, vencedor em 4.7 da terceira (mais recente) etapa do Campeonato de Vela Ligeira do Algarve 2012/2013, disputada no último fim-de-semana de Janeiro, em Olhão, obteve um excelente resultado, mas não foi o único.
Inês Sobral, da Associação Naval do Guadiana, foi a melhor portuguesa na classe Laser Rad Feminino, terminando na 12º posição da classificação geral. “Foi duro. Fui vítima de alguns percalços e más decisões mas consegui dar a volta. Mostrei capacidades com vento forte e estou satisfeita com os resultados e a oportunidade de competir com as melhores do mundo”, comentou a velejadora algarvia. Inês Sobral atravessa um bom momento de forma, tendo conquistado em Fevereiro último o título de Campeã de Portugal em Laser Radial Feminino.

Na baía de Cadiz, Inês Sobral fez uma prova de recuperação, chegando a andar pela 15ª posição, e afinou rotinas com vento forte, o que constitui um bom treino para o Campeonato de Portugal de Juniores e Absolutos, que vai ser disputado em Viana do Castelo, entre 26 a 30 de Março.
Outras duas velejadoras algarvias estiveram em destaque na Baía de Cadiz, em Laser Rad Feminino. Catarina Viegas (Clube de Vela de Lagos) foi a segunda melhor portuguesa (17ª na geral); e a terceira melhor portuguesa também é do Algarve; Beatriz Lopes (25ª na geral), da Associação Naval do Guadiana.
Em Laser Rad Masculino, quatro dos cinco melhores portugueses na VIII Semana Olímpica Andaluza foram velejadores algarvios. O melhor português foi Pedro Roque, do Clube Naval de Portimão, 11º na classificação geral. O terceiro melhor português, Santiago Sampaio (18º), também é do CNPortimão. Os quatro e quinto melhores portugueses foram Filipe Pedro (22º), da ANGuadiana, e Pedro Costa (26º), do Clube de Vela de Lagos.
Na frota portuguesa (extra Algarve), destaque para as vitórias da dupla António Matos Serra & Ricardo Schedel em 470 e de Frederico Melo em Finn. Destaque também para o segundo lugar na classificação geral de Laser 4.7 para Tomás Martins, do Sport Algés e Dafundo.

ALGARVE SAILORS ON TOP IN SPAIN
Algarve sailors contributed to the good performance of the Portuguese fleet in the VIII Andalusian Olympic Week, that together with the XIII Carnival Trophy was held for four days until Sunday, March 3, in the Bay of Cadiz, Puerto Sherry. Highlight for Jack Cookson, representing ‘Clube de Vela de Lagos’, who won third place overall in the Laser 4.7 class.
With strong Levante wind, the sailors from the Algarve measured strenght with the best in the world present in the Spanish international event. Jack Cookson, winner in 4.7 of Stop 3 (latest stage) of the Algarve Dinghy Championship 2012/2013, held on the last weekend of January, in Olhão, achieved an excellent result in Spain, but he was not the only one.
Inês Sobral, representing ‘Associação Naval do Guadiana’, was the best Portuguese in Laser Rad Women class, finishing in 12th position overall. “It was tough. I was victim of some mishaps and bad decisions but I managed to get around. I showed skills with strong wind and I am pleased with the results and the opportunity to compete with the best in the world,” said the sailor from the Algarve. Inês Sobral is in a good moment, having won in February the title of Portuguese Champion in Laser Radial Women.
At the Bay of Cadiz, Inês Sobral made a recovery test, even retrieving from the 15th position, and tuned routines with strong wind, which is a good workout for the Championship of Portugal and Junior Absolutes, which will be held in Viana do Castelo, from 26 to 30 March
Another two other sailors from the Algarve were highlighted at the Bay of Cadiz, in Laser Rad Women. Catarina Viegas (Clube de Vela de Lagos) was the second best Portuguese (17th overall) and the third best Portuguese was also from the Algarve, Beatriz Lopes (25th overall), representing Naval Association of the Guadiana.
In Laser Rad Male, four of the top five Portuguese at the Andalusian Olympic Week were from the Algarve. The best Portuguese was Pedro Roque, representing ‘Club’ Naval de Portimão’, 11th overall. The third best Portuguese, Sampaio Santiago (18), also represents CNPortimão. The fourth and fifth best Portuguese were Filipe Pedro (22), representing ANGuadiana, and Pedro Costa (26), from the ‘Clube de Vela de Lagos’.
