A armada algarvia da Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres (ABS) não fez história na 3ª etapa do Bodyboard Pro Tour 2012, que decorreu nos Açores, na Ilha de São Miguel, de 16 a 18 deste mês. Como desabafaram Francisco Pinheiro e Joana Schenker nas redes sociais, ficou sempre a faltar uma segunda onda.

No Open masculino, Francisco Pinheiro caiu nos quartos-finais. O júnior Gonçalo Pinheiro, com excelentes apontamentos, e João Pinheiro avançaram mais uma ronda, mas não passaram da repescagem para as meias-finais. No Open feminino, ao qual só se apresentaram 8 concorrentes, Joana Schenker perdeu nas meias-finais.

Os ‘riders’ algarvios, surpreendidos por uma tempestade que não os deixou ir ao mar nos dias que antecederam a prova, aproveitaram para passear pela Ilha de São Miguel e foram brindados no regresso a casa, já esta semana, com um dia de gala no Beliche.

O campeão nacional Manuel Centeno venceu a terceira etapa do Bodyboard Pro Tour 2012, onde Pedro Correia (‘Pedrim’) fez história ao ser o primeiro açoreano a disputar uma final de uma prova nacional. Com esta vitória, Manuel Centeno volta a ter hipótese de revalidar o título na última etapa do tour, marcada para 20 a 22 de Dezembro, em Carcavelos. 

No Open feminino, a vitória foi para Marta Fernandes, que ultrapassou a campeã nacional Rita Pires na meia-final e bateu Catarina Sousa na final. Aguardamos ainda pela divulgação dos resultados oficiais e do ranking actualizado pela Federação Portuguesa de Surf.

Esta etapa do campeonato nacional de bodyboard teve pouca assistência na Praia de Santa Bárbara e apenas 32 concorrentes masculinos e 8 femininos. É de salientar que esta prova decorreu num momento particularmente agitado para o bodyboard português. 

A Associação Portuguesa de Bodyboard (APB) tem sido alvo de muitas críticas, a ponto de o seu presidente, Paulinho Costa, ter divulgado uma carta aberta, no passado dia 8, com um acentuado: “Basta!” Dirigentes da APB e atletas realizaram duas reuniões em São Miguel, para analisar o futuro da modalidade em Portugal.

Algarve ‘riders’ representing Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres – Sagres Bodyboard Association (ABS) made no history in Stop 3 of Pro Bodyboard Tour 2012, held in the Azores, São Miguel Island, 16-18 this month. How vented Francisco Pinheiro and Joana Schenker through social networks, a second wave was always missing.

In the Open Male, Francisco Pinheiro fell in the quarter-finals. The junior Gonçalo Pinheiro and João Pinheiro advanced another round, but did not pass the playoffs to the semi-finals. In the Open Women, which only had 8 contestants, Joana Schenker lost in the semi-finals.

The Algarve ‘riders’, surprised by a storm that did not let them go into the sea in the days before the race, used the time for touring the island of São Miguel and were treated back home, already this week, with one perfect day of waves at Beliche.

The national champion Manuel Centeno won Stop 3 of the Bodyboard Pro Tour 2012, where Pedro Correia (‘Pedrim’) made history by being the first Azorean to play a final of a national event. With this victory, Manuel Centeno regain a chance to back win the title on the last leg of the tour, scheduled for 20-22 December in Carcavelos.

In the Open Women, the victory went to Marta Fernandes, which exceeded the national champion Rita Pires in the semi-final and beat Catarina Sousa in the final. We still await the release of the official results and updated rankings by the Federação Portuguesa de Surf Portuguese Surfing Federation (FPS).

Stop 3 of the national bodyboard championship had few spectators in Praia de Santa Bárbara and only 32 male and 8 female competitors. Importantly, this trial took place at a particularly nasty moment for the Portuguese bodyboarding.

The Associação Portuguesa de Bodyboard – Portuguese Association of Bodyboarding (APB) has been the target of much criticism, to the point that its president, Paulinho Costa, released an open letter on the 8th, with a pronounced: “Enough!” APB athletes and leaders held two meetings in São Miguel, to debate the future of the sport in Portugal.
