A luso-germânica Joana Schenker, residente no Algarve e atleta da Associação Bodyboard de Sagres, foi a melhor competidora europeia no Miss Sumol Cup 2012, prova a contar para o Circuito Europeu de Bodyboard disputada na semana passada na Praia da Costa Nova, Ílhavo, Aveiro.
Joana Schenker esteve muito forte e venceu todos as baterias que disputou para conseguir ser uma das quatro finalistas. Na final “o vento rodou e as ondas desfizeram-se”, diz Joana Schenker (44ª do ranking mundial), que terminou em quarto lugar, com 11.06 pontos. Foi a melhor europeia na prova. “Acho que podia ter feiro um pouco melhor, mas estou satisfeita com a minha prestação, até porque o meu primeiro objectivo era chegar à final”, comentou a atleta da Associação Bodyboard de Sagres.

A final foi ganha pela brasileira Nicolle Calheiros (29ª do ranking mundial), com 14 pontos, graças a uma onda de 8 pontos feita a cinco minutos do fim da bateria e que a catapultou da quarta para a primeira posição, garantindo-lhe o título de Miss Sumol Cup 2012 em bodyboard. A segunda classificada foi a porto-riquenha Natasha Sagardia (8ª no ranking mundial), com 12.34 pontos. E em terceiro ficou a australiana Lilly Pollard (5ª no ranking mundial), com 12.23 pontos.

Joana Schenker from Algarve, representing Associação Bodyboard de Sagres, was the best european athlete in Miss Sumol Cup 2012, event of the european bodyboard circuit that took place last week at Praia da Costa Nova, Ílhavo, Aveiro, North of Portugal.
Joana was very strong during the competition, winning all the heats on her way to become one of the four finalists. In the final “the wind changed and the waves broke down”, said the athlete from Algarve, who finished in the 4th place, with a score of 11.06 points. She was the best european in the event just for women. “I could have done a little better, but i’m pleased because my first objective was to be in the final”, said Joana Schenker (44th in the world ranking).
The final was won by Nicolle Calheiros (14 points), from Brazil and 29th in the world ranking. She had an 8 points wave with five minutes to the end and jumped from the 4th place to become Miss Sumol Cup 2012. Natasha Sagardia (12.34 points), from Puerto-Rico and 8th in the world ranking, finished second and Lilly Pollard (12.23 points), from Australia and 5th in the world ranking, was third.
