| João Pinheiro viveu experiência “brutal” em Pipeline |
João Pinheiro, da Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres, competiu na prova de abertura do mundial de Bodyboard, o 2013 IBA GoPro Pipe Challenge, em Pipeline, Hawaii. O ‘rider’ algarvio foi eliminado na primeira bateria em que participou, na Ronda 3, mas viveu uma “experiência brutal” e levou a bandeira do Algarve ao palco maior do bodyboard mundial.
Devido ao seu ‘ranking’ europeu, João Pinheiro entrou directo para a Ronda 3 e competiu na passada quinta-feira. “Não correu como pretendia. Na primeira onda devia ter arriscado um Backflip e não consegui sair de um tubo já perto do final do heat (bateria)”, comentou João Pinheiro. As duas ondas teriam sido suficientes para passar a ronda, admite, mas fica a experiência adquirida nas melhores ondas que viu na vida, que o próprio atleta define numa palavra: “brutal”.
Com o novo patrocínio Allianz, adquirido para a presente temporada, João Pinheiro poderá voltar aos palcos internacionais. No balanço da sua participação no GoPro Pipe Challenge, o atleta algarvio deixou felicitações para os outros portugueses em prova, nomeadamente António Cardoso, que evoluiu dos ‘trials’ até à Ronda 6, e Rui Pereira, que chegou aos 1/8 e foi o melhor português em prova. Sem esquecer “o Gastão’, que caiu na Ronda 4, mas “mostrou uma atitude brutal”.
A todos eles e em particular a João Pinheiro, o Swell-Algarve quer deixar aqui um forte abraço de parabéns pela boa representação do bodyboard português. Registo final para as vitórias no 2013 IBA GoPro Pipe Challenge: Ben Player (Austrália) em masculinos e Isabela Sousa (Brasil) em femininos.

João Pinheiro, representing Associação de Bodyboard de Sagres, competed in the opening World Bodyboarding event, the 2013 IBA Pipe Challenge GoPro, at Pipeline, Hawaii. The ‘rider’ from the Algarve was eliminated in his first heat in Round 3, but lived a “brutal experience” and carried the banner of the Algarve on to the bodyboard world stage.
Due to its european ‘ranking’ João Pinheiro entered directly in Round 3 and competed last Thursday. “It did not happened as intended. During the first wave I should have ventured a Backflip and I could not get out of a tube near the end of the heat,” commented João Pinheiro. The two waves would have been sufficient to advance to Round 4, he admits, but he had the experience of the best waves seen in his life, that the athlete sets in a word: “brutal.”
With the new sponsor Allianz acquired for this season, João Pinheiro could return to the international stage. In the balance of his participation in GoPro Pipe Challenge, the athlete from the Algarve congratulates the other Portuguese in evidence, notably António Cardoso, who went through the ‘trials’ to Round 6, and Rui Pereira, who reached the 1/8 and was the best Portuguese in the event. Not forgetting “Gastão”, eliminated in Round 4, but “showed a brutal attitude”.
