O algarvio Luís Esteves perdeu a liderança do Circuito Nacional de Longboard 2013 após ser eliminado nos quartos-de-final da 2ª Etapa, que decorreu no passado sábado, 16 de Novembro, na Costa de Caparica. O atleta do Clube de Surf de Faro (CSF) está agora a 30 pontos do novo líder, o campeão nacional em título Ruben Silva, mas vai “dar tudo por tudo” para conquistar o título nacional na derradeira etapa do circuito, marcada para daqui a duas semanas, em São Pedro do Estoril.
A 2ª Etapa do Circuito Nacional de Longboard “foi uma desgraça para os atletas do Clube de Surf de Faro”, reconhece o presidente do clube, Manuel ‘Necas’ Mestre, eliminado em 4º na sua bateria da Ronda 1. “Não me acontecia há uns anos e ainda por cima com ondas boas” (de metro, offshore), desabafou ‘Necas’ na rede social Facebook. “Foi inexplicável. No meio de tantas ondas boas não consegui apanhar duas. Fiz uma má escolha de ondas”, disse ‘Necas’ ao Swell-Algarve.

Inês Martins também competiu pelo CSF e, tal como ‘Necas’, também perdeu em 4º logo na primeira ronda. Luís Esteves foi o terceiro representante do CSF e chegou à Caparica líder do circuito, após ter vencido a etapa inaugural em Cortegaça. Provavelmente a acusar a responsabilidade da liderança, Luís Esteves não mostrou todo o seu surf nesta 2ª Etapa: passou a primeira ronda em 2º e foi eliminado na ronda seguinte, quartos-de-final, em 3º numa bateria de 3 (dominada pelos atletas de Peniche Bruno Grandela, 1º, e João Carvalho, 2º). “Não me enquadrei bem com as condições”, disse Luís Esteves ao Swell-Algarve.
A 2ª Etapa do Circuito Nacional de Longboard 2013 foi uma festa caseira, com dois atletas locais no topo do pódio. A etapa foi ganha pelo campeão nacional 2011, José Lafuente, seguido por Luís ‘Lufi’ Bento, ambos atletas da Costa de Caparica. Bruno Grandela (PPSC Peniche Surf Clube) foi terceiro e o campeão nacional em título, Ruben Silva (V.N.Gaia, inscrito neste circuito pela Associação Onda do Norte) foi o quarto classificado na final, assumindo a liderança do circuito.
A 3ª Etapa (última) deste circuito está marcada para os dias 30 de Novembro e 1 de Dezembro, em São Pedro do Estoril. Será uma etapa decisiva, dado que o circuito tem apenas três etapas e todas contam para o ‘ranking’. “Vou dar tudo por tudo para ser campeão nacional. Estou a 30 pontos do Ruben e preciso de terminar a próxima etapa à frente dele, do ‘Lufi’ e do Grandela”, disse Luís Esteves ao Swell-Algarve.

LUÍS ESTEVES LOOSES THE LEADERSHIP
Luís Esteves from the Algarve lost the leadership in the Portuguese National Longboard 2013 Circuit after being eliminated in the quarter- finals of Event 2, which took place on Saturday, November 16, at Costa de Caparica. The athlete representing the ‘Clube de Surf de Faro’ ( CSF ) is now 30 points behind the new circuit leader, the Portuguese national champion Ruben Silva, but will “give it everything ” to win the national title at the final event of the circuit, scheduled to take place in two weeks from now in São Pedro do Estoril.
Event 2 of the Portuguese National Longboard 2013 Circuit “was a disgrace to the athletes of the ‘Clube de Surf de Faro'”, recognized the club president , Manuel ‘ Necas ‘ Mestre, eliminated in 4th of his Round 1 heat. “It didn’t happened to for a long time and top it off with good waves” ( 3-4 feet, offshore ), vented ‘Necas’ in the social network Facebook . “It was inexplicable. Amid so many good waves I could not pick two good ones. I had a poor choice of waves”, said ‘Necas’ to the Swell-Algarve.
Inês Martins also competed for the CSF and – as ‘ Necas ‘ – also lost in 4th in the first round. Luis Esteves was the third representative of the CSF and arrived in Caparica leading the national circuit after having won the opening event held in Cortegaça, in August. Probably accusing the responsibility of the leadership, the ‘Algarvean’ did not show all his surfing at this Event 2: he advanced second in the first round and was eliminated in the round that followed, quarter-finals in 3rd in a heat of 3 men (dominated by athletes from Peniche Bruno Grandela, 1st, and João Carvalho, 2nd) . ” I was not able to feel at ease with the conditions”, said Luis Esteves to the Swell-Algarve .
Event 2 of the Portuguese National Longboard 2013 Circuit was a home party, with two local athletes at the top of the podium. The event was won by the 2011 Portuguese national champion, José Lafuente, followed by Luís ‘ Lufi ‘ Bento, both from Costa de Caparica. Bruno Grandela (Peniche) finished third and the 2012 Portuguese national champion, Ruben Silva finished fourth in the final, taking the circuit lead.
Event 3 ( last ) of this circuit is scheduled for 30th November and 1st December in São Pedro do Estoril (Lisbon). It will be decisive, since the circuit has only three events and all count for the ‘ ranking ‘. “I will give everything to be national champion. I am 30 points behind of Ruben and I need to finish the next event ahead of him, ‘Lufi’ and Grandela to be national champion”, said Luis Esteves to Swell-Algarve.
