O Circuito de Surf do Algarve 2012 termina este fim-de-semana, na Praia da Rocha, Portimão. No primeiro dia da 5º – última – Etapa, Sábado, 15 de Dezembro, Guilherme Ribeiro destacou-se, ao vencer a categoria sub-12 e qualificar-se para a final sub-14. Nádia Reis venceu ’em casa’ na categoria Feminino, deixando na segunda posição Yolanda Sequeira, atleta de Quarteira que chegou a esta última etapa já com a renovação do título regional assegurada.

Mar sem condições no pico do Molhe da Rocha levou a organização da Playsurf a instalar o campeonato na Praia do Alemão, na zona do Vau. Com meio-metrão generoso no set, os mais jovens atletas desafiaram a chuva e o frio e mostraram bons apontamentos de surf.
Ao princípio da tarde, já sem chuva, o campeonato regressou à Praia da Rocha, mas ao pico do Molhe Novo (Miradouro), na zona poente, com melhores condições em maré cheia para as fases finais dos sub-12, sub-14, sub-16 e Feminino.

Guilherme Ribeiro foi o herói do dia. Já tinha garantido – na 4ª Etapa, em Quarteira – o título regional do Algarve 2012 e venceu a 5ª Etapa, na Rocha, terminando o circuito regional sub-12 com vitórias em todas as provas. É atleta do Caparica Surfing Club e vice-campeão nacional sub-12.
Guilherme Ribeiro tem 10 anos de idade e pratica surf desde os 4 anos, incentivado pelo pai, também ele praticante de surf. Além da coroação em pleno, Guilherme conseguiu ainda qualificar-se para a final regional sub-14, que se disputa Domingo.

Na categoria Feminino, a vitória na etapa coube a uma atleta de Portimão, Nádia Reis, da Future Surfing School, associada ao Clube Naval de Portimão. “É fixe! Correu-me bem”, disse ao Swell Algarve.
A jovem portimonense, Nádia Reis, de 15 anos de idade, termina a época como vice-campeã regional e impôs-se na Rocha à bi-campeã regional, Yolanda Sequeira. Estreante na Praia da Rocha, a atleta de Quarteira sentiu dificuldades em mostrar todo o potencial do seu surf na final: “Não consegui finalizar”, explicou ao Swell-Algarve.

Sub-14 foi a categoria mais emotiva do primeiro dia na Rocha. O líder do ranking regional, Tomás Ribeiro, caiu nas meias-finais e perdeu a hipótese de conquistar o título. Na segunda meia-final sub-14 foi também eliminado outro candidato ao título, Simão Teixeira. Na final, que se disputa Domingo, está em prova Gaspar Teixeira, também ele um candidato ao título. Vai medir forças com António Silveira, Guilherme Ribeiro e António Dionísio.

Em sub-16, Francisco Duarte, de Portimão, já é campeão regional 2012. Já era líder destacado no ranking e esteve muito forte em todos as baterias disputadas Sábado na Rocha, mantendo a vantagem. Francisco vai estar na final de Domingo com Martim Magalhães (o seu perseguidor, também de Portimão), António Duarte e António Silveira (que disputa também a final sub-14).

A primeira chamada da Domingo para o segundo dia de prova na Praia da Rocha é às 09h00. A jornada vai começar com o Open, para o qual estão inscritos duas dezenas de atletas. Vão estar presentes os melhores surfistas do Algarve, prometendo um bom espectáculo, apesar de Miguel Mouzinho, de Lagos, ter já assegurada a renovação do título regional.
Vai também ser disputada Domingo a final de Longboard (esta competição só terá uma final de um heat nesta etapa), numa luta directa pelo título entre três surfistas do Clube de Surf de Faro: Manuel Mestre, ‘Necas’ (líder do ranking), João Veríssimo, ‘Furas’ (vice-campeão nacional 2012) e Luís Esteves.

DAY 1 AT PRAIA DA ROCHA
The Algarve Surf Tour 2012 concludes this week-end, at Praia da Rocha, Portimão. On the first day of Stop 5 – last event, Saturday, Dec. 15, Guilherme Ribeiro distinguished himself by winning the under-12 category and qualifying for the final under-14. Nádia Reis won ‘at home’ in the Female category, beating Yolanda Sequeira, Quarteira athlete who has reached this last round already with the regional title renovation ensured.
Poor sea conditions at Praia da Rocha led the Playsurf organization to move the event to Praia do Alemão, in the Vau area. With 2-3 ft waves, the younger athletes defied the rain and the cold and showed good moments of surfing. By early afternoon, already without rain, the championship returned to Praia da Rocha, but on the western side, with better conditions for the finals under-12 and Female and semi-finals under-14 and under-16.
Guilherme Ribeiro was the hero of the day. He had already guaranteed – at Stop 4 at Quarteira – the Algarve regional title 2012 and won Stop 5, at Praia da Rocha, ending the regional under-12 circuit with victories in all competitions. Guilherme represents Caparica Surfing Club and he is under-12 runner-up portuguese champion. He has 10 years of age and practices surfing since 4 years old, encouraged by his father, also a surfer. Besides the coronation in full, Guilheme still managed to qualify for the under-14 regional final, which takes place on Sunday.
In the Female category, Stop 5 victory went to a local athlete, Nádia Reis, representing Future Surfing School, associated with Clube Naval de Portimão. “It’s cool! I did well,” said Nádia to Swell-Algarve. The young surfer from Portimão, 15 years old, finished the season as regional runner-up, but imposed herself at Praia da Rocha to the bi-regional champion, Yolanda Sequeira. Rookie at Praia da Rocha, the athlete from Quarteira, Yolanda struggled to show the full potential of her surf in the finals: “I did not managed to conclude the waves”, she explained to Swell-Algarve.
Under-14 category was the most emotional of the first day at Praia da Rocha. The leader of the regional ranking, Tomás Ribeiro, was out in the semi-finals and lost the chance of winning the title. In the second under-14 semi-final another contender, Simão Teixeira was also eliminated. Gaspar Teixeira, also a contender, is in the final, which takes place on Sunday. Gaspar will measure forces with António Silveira, Guilherme Ribeiro and António Dionísio.
In under-16, Francisco Duarte, from Portimão, is now regional champion 2012. He was the clear leader in the ranking and was very strong in all the heats he surfed Saturday at Praia da Rocha, keeping the advantage. Francisco will be in the final on Sunday with Martim Magalhães (his pursuer, also from Portimão), António Duarte and António Silveira (who is also in the under-14 final).
The morning first call for the second day of competition at Praia da Rocha is at 09h00. The day will begin with the Open, with two dozen athletes. Will attend the best surfers in the Algarve, promising a good show, although Miguel Mouzinho, from Lagos, has already secured the renewal of the regional title.
The Longboard final will also take place on Sunday. This category will only have one heat at Praia da Rocha. It will be a direct fight for the regional title between three surfers representing Clube de Surf de Faro (CSF – Faro Surf Club): Manuel Mestre, “Necas’ (leader of the ranking), João Veríssimo, ‘Furas’ (portuguese runner-up 2012) and Luis Esteves.
