Surf – Campeonato Nacional Longboard 2012

João Veríssimo, do Clube de Surf de Faro (CSF), sagrou-se vice-campeão nacional de longboard 2012, no passado fim-de-semana, 8 e 9 de Dezembro, na Praia do Guincho. O campeonato foi ganho por Ruben Silva, do Porto, com apenas 30 pontos de vantagem sobre o surfista algarvio.
As contas finais do nacional de longboard foram feitas no Estoril Surf Festival, onde Ben Skinner conquistou o título europeu. João Veríssimo, ‘Furas’ foi afastado nos quartos-de-final pelo inglês Adam Griffiths, que haveria de ser o finalista vencido desta prova. Ruben Silva também perdeu na mesma fase, mas acabou por conquistar o título nacional.
É de salientar que o surfista de Faro não esteve presente na etapa do nacional em Gaia. Ruben Silva pontuou em todas as quatro etapas do campeonato. Com 22 anos de idade, João Veríssimo tem já um palmarés considerável: campeão nacional em 2009, campeão europeu por equipas (selecção portuguesa) em 2011 e campeão regional do Algarve três anos consecutivos (2009, 2010 e 2011).

No balanço final do campeonato nacional de longboard 2012, destaque ainda para o Clube de Surf de Faro, que coloca 3 atletas no Top 13 português: João Veríssimo (2º), Luís Esteves (4º) e Manuel Mestre (13º). É de referir que, tal como João Veríssimo, também Luís Esteves só participou em três das quatro etapas do nacional. Manuel Mestre só esteve presente em duas.

João Veríssimo, representing Clube de Surf de Faro (CSF), finished second of the portuguese longboard championship 2012, in the past week-end 8th and 9th December, at Praia do Guincho. The championship was won by Ruben Silva, from Porto, with only 30 points ahead of the surfer from the Algarve.
The final accounts of portuguese longboard championship were made at Estoril Surf Festival, where Ben Skinner won the European title. João Verissimo, a.k.a. Furas was ousted in the quarter-finals by Englishman Adam Griffiths, who would be beaten at the final of the event. Ruben Silva also lost at the same stage (quarter-finals), but ended up winning the national title.
It is noteworthy that the surfer from Faro was not present at the national round in Gaia. Ruben Silva scored in all four rounds of the championship. João Veríssimo, 22, has already a considerable prize list: national champion in 2009, European team champion (portuguese team) in 2011 and the Algarve regional champion for three consecutive years (2009, 2010 and 2011).
In the final reading of national championship standings, also point out the Surf Club of Faro Clube de Surf de Faro (CSF), which puts 3 athletes in the portuguese Top 13: João Verissimo (2nd), Luís Esteves (4th) and Manuel Mestre (13th). It should be noted that, as João Verissimo, Luis Esteves only participated in three of the four rounds of the championship. Manuel Mestre only attended two.
