Martim Sancho, do Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro, foi o 2º melhor português no Campeonato Europeu de Optimist 2013, que hoje terminou na Hungria. O jovem velejador algarvio terminou o campeonato na 52ª posição entre de 146 atletas participantes. Afonso Rodrigues, também do GCNFaro, foi 54ª na classificação geral masculina.
Martim e Afonso começaram o campeonato muito bem, velejando entre os Top 30 após o primeiro dia de regatas. Afonso perdeu ritmo mas Marrtim conseguiu manter o nível no segundo dia, chegando a concluir uma regata na 2ª posição, apesar de baixar para 38º na classificação geral.
O último dia de regatas não correu bem para os atletas algarvios, sendo aproveitado por João Bolina, que acabou por ser o melhor português, concluindo o Campeonato Europeu de Optimist 2013 na 35ª posição da classificação final masculina, onde Sebastião Rebolo ocupou a 131ª posição.
A equipa portuguesa neste campeonato foi ainda composta por três velejadoras, para a competição feminina (102 competidoras): Ana Catarino (47ª), Francisca Pinho (52ª) e Mafalda Paquete (95ª).

Sailing – Optimist European Championship
MARTIM SANCHO 2ND BEST PORTUGUESE
Martim Sancho (Ginásio Clube Naval de Faro) was the 2nd best portuguese in the Optimist European Championship 2013, that today was concluded in Hungary. The young sailor from the Algarve finished 52nd in the championships amongst 146 male competitors. Afonso Rodrigues, representing also the GCNFaro, finished 54th.
Martim and Afonso started the championship very strong, sailing in the Top 30 after Day 1. Afonso lost pace but Martim managed to maintain a good level in Day 2, finishing 2nd in one of the regattas, despite falling to 38th in the overall standings.
Day 3 was unlucky to the sailors from the Algarve, but good for another Portuguese, João Bolina, who raised to 35th place of the overall standings finishing as the best Portuguese in the event. Sebastião Rebolo, another Portuguese, finished 131st in the overall male standings.
Portugal was also represented by three girls for the women competition (102 competitors): Ana Catarino (47th), Francisca Pinho (52nd) and Mafalda Paquete (95th)
