A Etapa 4 do Circuito de Surf do Algarve 2013 foi adiada porque as previsões apontam para não haver ondas. A prova estava prevista decorrer no próximo fim-de-semana, mas está agora marcada para o fim-de-semana 7 e 8 de Dezembro. A decisão foi tomada ontem à noite pelo clube organizador, Quarteira Surf Project (QSP) e o facto de ser o segundo adiamento obrigou a um entendimento entre os clubes inscritos no circuito, no sentido de evitar o cancelamento e escolher uma nova data para realizar esta etapa, muito importante na luta pelos títulos nas diversas categorias.
“Adiámos por falta de ondas. Estamos a pensar que pode entrar qualquer coisa no domingo, mas não podemos arriscar, até porque temos muitos atletas inscritos, cerca de uma centena”, disse ao Swell-Algarve Fábio Fragoso, presidente da Associação Dinamika, na qual se insere o Quarteira Surf Project.
A decisão de adiar a etapa em Quarteira, segundo Fragoso, foi tomada ontem à noite, no limite do tempo útil para avisar a Capitania sem ter de pagar taxas devidas para controlo de navegação. Fábio Fragoso explicou ao Swell-Algarve que o adiamento foi negociado com vários clubes, particularmente com Portimão, que vai organizar a Etapa 5 no fim-de-semana 21 e 22 de Dezembro.
A etapa em Quarteira estava originalmente prevista para os dias 9 e 10 de Novembro e foi então adiada por duas semanas, também por falta de ondas. As regras do Circuito de Surf do Algarve implicam o cancelamento das etapas ao segundo adiamento, excepto se os clubes concordarem em marcar uma terceira data, o que aconteceu neste caso.
O cancelamento desta etapa, por exemplo, ditaria o afastamento imediato do campeão Open 2012, Miguel Mouzinho, da luta para conquistar este ano o seu quinto título consecutivo. O surfista de Lagos só poderia ganhar a última etapa e somar um máximo de 2 mil pontos. Francisco Canelas lidera o circuito em Open com 2220 pontos, seguido por Paulo Almeida, também acima da fasquia dos 2 mil pontos.
Recorde-se que para o ‘ranking’ final neste circuito contam as 3 melhores etapas (num total de 5), pelo que esta recta final de duas etapas – Quarteira e Praia da Rocha (Portimão) – vai ser extremamente competitiva, com luta aberta pelos títulos em todas as categorias envolvidas.

EVENT IN QUARTEIRA POSTPONED
Event 4 of the Algarve Surf Circuit 2013 was postponed because forecasts show no waves for the next weekend. The event was rescheduled for the weekend 7th and 8th December. The decision was made last night by the organizing club, Quarteira Surf Project (QSP) and being the second postponement forced an agreement between the clubs in the circuit in order to avoid cancellation and choose a new date to perform this event very important in the fight for the titles in the different age groups.
“We have postponed for lack of waves. We think that maybe some waves can appear on Sunday, but we can not risk because many athletes have enrolled, about one hundred”, said Fabio Fragoso, president of the Association Dinamika in which incorporates the Quarteira Surf Project .
The decision to postpone the event in Quarteira, according to Fragoso, was taken last night at the limit of useful time to warn the captaincy without having to pay fees due to navigation control. Fabio Fragoso explained to the Swell-Algarve that the postponement was negotiated with several clubs, particularly in Portimão, where it will be held Event 5 on the weekend 21st and 22nd December.
The event in Quarteira was originally scheduled for 9th and 10th November and was then postponed a first time for two weeks week, also for lack of waves. The rules of the Algarve Surf Circuit imply the cancellation of the events in case of a second postponement, except if the clubs agree to schedule a third date and that is what happened in this case.
The cancellation of this event, for example, would dictate the immediate dismissal of the 2012 Open champion, Miguel Mouzinho to fight this year for his fifth consecutive title. The surfer from Lagos could only win the last event and add a maximum of 2000 points. Francisco Canelas now leads the circuit with 2220, followed by Paulo Almeida, also above the threshold of 2000 points .
Remember that only 3 events (of 5) counts for the final ‘ranking’ in this circuit and thats why this final stretch of two events – Quarteira and Praia da Rocha (Portimão) – will be extremely competitive, with open warfare for the titles in all the age groups.
