Velejadores algarvios em destaque em prova internacional de Laser |
Velejadores de três clubes algarvios – Associação Naval do Guadiana, Clube Naval de Portimão e Clube de Vela de Lagos – estiveram entre os 80 participantes, em representação de 8 países, na Quebramar Cascais Laser Europa Cup, que decorreu de 18 a 20 de Outubro. Destaque para Santiago Sampaio (CNPortimão) e Pedro Costa (CVLagos), que conquistaram o 2º e 3º lugares na Classe Radial, respectivamente, e também para Inês Sobral (ANGuadiana), a 4ª melhor na classificação feminina na mesma Classe.

Sailing – Laser Europa Cup
SAILORS FROM THE ALGARVE IN THE ‘RAD’ PODIUM
Sailors representing three clubs from the Algarve – ‘Associação Naval do Guadiana’, ‘Clube Naval de Portimão’ and ‘Clube de Vela de Lagos’ – were among the 80 participants, representing 8 countries in the Quebramar Cascais Laser Europa Cup, held from 18 to 20 October. Highlights to Satiago Sampaio (CNPortimão) and Pedro Costa (CVLagos) for winning the 2nd and 3rd places in the Radial Class, respectively, and also to Inês Sobral (ANGuadiana), the 4th best female in the same class.
The 3rd edition of this international event in Cascais was marked by irregular wind – tend to be weak – during the weekend and strong swell, especially on the first day. There were a total of 7 regattas in three classes – Standard, Radial and 4.7. In ‘ premier class ‘ (Standard), the victory went to the Lithuanian Pajhrskas Martis, followed by Tiago Morais (CNLeça) and Janulionis Karolis (Lithuania). No sailor from the Algarve participated in Standard Class .
The competition in the Radial Class was won by Britain’s Jon Emmett and the podium was completed with two sailors from the Algarve: Santiago Sampaio (CNPortimão) in 2nd place and Pedro Costa (CVLagos) in 3rd place. This class was contested by 36 sailors and two other sailors from the Algarve – Martin Anderson (CNPortimão) and João Rodrigues (CVLagos) – concluded the race in the Top 10.
Also noteworthy Inês Sobral (ANGuadiana) which was the 2nd best Portuguese women sailor in the Radial Class, the 4th in female ranking, led by Russian Ekaterina Morgun (11th overall) followed by Swiss Andrea Nordquist (12th overall).
In the youngest Class, Laser 4.7, the best from the Algarve was Francisco Farinha (CNPortimão) , 9th overall. The event in this Class was contested by 30 sailors and won by Swiss Asya Luvisetto , followed by her compatriot Alexis Mégevand and the Portuguese Sebastião Rebolo (SADafundo).
